Jonas Brothers - Burning up , Goodwin's theory

--> In this music video performed by the Jonas brothers, you see a various collaborations of intertextuality; drawing on to other texts. The first reference is to James bond, an iconic spy sequence of entering a mission by a boat.  This scene is recognised by everyone, from all different ages, stereotypically capturing the bad guys. However this not the only way we recognise this sequence from James Bond but also the iconic scene of the black tunnel edited around him as he stand there in a bow tie and suit and the glamorous girl on his arm and the expensive car.  Still in the James bond scene it moves to a gambling scene where the camera tracks a close up of his eyes looking at the villain, swiftly moves on to where ‘ James Bond’ jumps over lasers to rescue the damsel in distress, this is a stereotypical scene of a spy movie but incorporating main parts from the James bond films. From this we move onto another iconic scene from ‘Starsky and Hutch’, the chasing of the villains and saving the damsel in distress, similar to James Bond. The camera stops and captures the main character and introduces them, which is very iconic for referring back to this type of movie. To refer back to this intertextuality, they use specific props for example, the sunglasses, moustaches and costumes, emphasising the change in time period compared to the sequence before of James bond. The final piece of intertextuality is the typical kung fu movie, where the student is being taught by their master and finally turns into the master and saves the love interest. The typical mise en scene of authentic and recognisable props helps capture the intertextuality, and reference. The narratives are not complete but come to some sort on conclusions, so they are not in a linear order. Through out they cut between narrative and performance and all three of the artists are apart of both the narrative and performance. John Stewart said that ‘incorporating, raiding and reconstruction ‘, all of these have been used and developed in this music video, using their own interpretations of all of these iconic scenes , helping the audience recognise what they have done as well as letting them relate and connect with this music video.
